Philips HF3505/01 Wake-Up Light

Does The Philips HF3505/01 Wake-Up Light Sunrise Simulator Do Enough For The Price Tag?

Philips Wake-Up Light Alarm Clock HF3505The Philips HF3505/01 Wake-Up Light Sunrise Simulator is yet another Philips light therapy device that is designed for first thing in the morning.

This light boasts a range of features that are designed to help people make up more easily each morning, especially those with SAD and sleep disorders.

There is the sunrise function of the circular light, with ten intensity settings, wake-up sounds, a radio and a display in the middle with a large clock face and all the necessary buttons. This is an attractive looking device from a brand that is revered for their other alarms and therapy lights. Does this model live up to expectations?

What advantages have been seen by users testing out this Philips HF3505/01 Sunlight Simulation Device in the morning?

The first aspect of this product to look at is the light itself. Products that create a natural sunrise or a popular way of waking up in the morning now. The great thing about this model is that adaptability in the intensity settings and the spectrum of the sunset.

It is possible to enjoy a slow, sunrise and wake up with a better mood and energy level. There is also the chance to use it purely as a sunrise alarm or a reading light, without any other the audible alarm features. This sunrise alone seems to be enough to reliably wake people up.

On the subject of those audible features, there is the use of sounds that are meant to enhance the functionality of this wake-up alarm system. Natures sounds are always a popular choice when done right and these seem to be good enough when used. There is also praise for the quality of the radio, even if it is not the loudest.

Finally there is the general ease of use. The instructions are pretty good for the display, and there are few issues programming the different alarms and settings. There are mixed responses to the use of non-physical buttons on the display, as some feel it make it more difficult to stop and start an alarm.

This can be an issue when trying to activate the snooze button on the display, which works for 9 minutes. It should also be noted that there is an adjustable brightness for the display in the middle of the alarm, so that large clock face doesn’t have to be quite so intrusive first thing in the morning or in the middle of the night.

Are there any downsides to choosing this Philips HF3505/01 Wake-Up Light Sunrise Simulation for your morning routine?

Unfortunately, reviews for this options are pretty mixed. One of the biggest issues is that Phillips didn’t really add as many features as some would have hoped for, especially for the price. There is no sunset mode for getting to sleep, unlike many top models these days. The use of just two nature sounds is also pretty minimal when there are other models with a range of sounds and MP3 functionality.

Another concern from users is that this model feels a little cheap of flimsy with the plastic construction, with concerns about it breaking if it were to be knocked off a bedside table. Again, this isn’t great when users pay so much for a model from this brand.

Summary: does this mean that this Philips Wake-Up Light is highly recommendable or not?

There is a claim on the sales page that most of users found it easier to get up in the morning with this light. This may be true, and there are certainly positive reports to back this up, but that doesn’t mean that this Philips model is the ideal option for everyone.

The light does work, with that sunrise function and adaptable brightness, but there are limitations in the options and design. There is the chance to get a great result in the winter months with minimal effect through the sunrise function alone, but some rightly question whether it does enough.

With a sunset mode, a stronger construction and some more options generally, buyers may feel as though they were getting their money’s worth with this Philips wake-up light and would be more inclined to give it 5 stars.
