Beurer TL55 SAD Lamp Review

Does The Portable Design Of The Beurer TL55 SAD Lamp Work?

Beurer TL55 SAD Lamp with Night LightThere is the clear sense that the designers of the Beurer TL55 SAD Lamp wanted to do something a little different.

There are some basic features that go into most typical SAD lamps – a white bulb, portable shape and just enough settings without getting confusing.

This one goes a step further by adding a cordless function and a “Night Light”. The idea here is that this should be a more user-friendly and more functional option. But, is this really the case?

The Pros and Cons of this Beurer TL55 Lamp:

Pros:

  • A thin, portable system that is also rechargeable
  • A high quality LED light source for morning therapy
  • That additional nightlight for sleep issues

Cons:

  • Some design flaws that may limit the potential of the device
  • Could use some better accessories.

The basic elements of this Beurer TL55 SAD Lamp offer great light therapy sessions via a portable system.

The first benefit here is the shape of this Beurer SAD lamp. This is another thin light device that mimics the look of a tablet and is slim enough to be portable. The dimensions and integrated stand mean that this is a desktop device, so easy to use at the office, kitchen table or elsewhere. The fact that this is a cordless, rechargeable option is a rarity that some consumers will appreciate more than others.

Then there is the advantage of the quality of the light. This is a 10,000 lux, grade II certified lamp with a 21 x 13cm surface. It also uses LED tech for flicker free sessions.

This, along with the five brightness levels, mean that it is pretty easy to set up a SAD light therapy session and achieve the required medical benefits.

There is also the addition of a soft red sunset simulation – which we assume is what they mean by a night light. This can help with sleep disorders, adding a little more functionality to the light.

The problem with this Beurer Portable SAD Lamp is that there are areas where the designers could make some adjustments to improve the user experience.

There are some small, frustrating flaws that the company could easily fix on future models. The first is the amount of wasted space with the frame around the light source.

While this does add to that tablet look, there are other top products that let the light cover the whole face for improved projection. There are also issues with the protective case and stand. The case is not that protective because it is so thin and the stand is weak.

Is this Beurer TL55 Light Therapy Device still recommendable with all of this in mind?

This SAD lamp clearly needs a little more thought when it comes to the accessories and extra features that are provided. This may mean that buyers have to pay a little more, but they should be happy to if it means a better user experience.

There is still a lot to like here. The therapy light has a pleasant, consistent light source. The device is light and portable. There are also some nice ideas with the cordless design and sunset simulation. The Beurer SAD light box is still a work in progress, but one heading in an interesting direction.
